ADHD Chair – A New Look at Rocking Chair Therapy

0

In the past the treatment of ADHD and ADD has been pretty advanced. It has involved specialized medicine and various types of physical therapy. But doctors are starting to lean to more traditional methods, such as rocking chair therapy. The rocking motion has such a calming effect on kids, that the medical field began to experiment on children with ADD. They use this special chair in classrooms across this world. It is known as the ADHD chair. Children are benefiting from this old-fashioned chair at school, in their home, and most importantly, in their attention span.

The chair is being implemented into the “specialty needs” classrooms to relax students with the slow, calming rocking motion while they listen to lectures and work in their workbooks. Some studies have seen a higher increase in completed school assignments as well as a higher grade point average when the rocking chair was used every day. Instead of becoming bored so quickly, schools are seeing the children stay dedicated to their studies for longer periods of time.

The success of rocking chair therapy is making its way into the home front as well. Where once there was a deficit in reading amongst children with ADD/ADHD, this unique way of therapy is growing a desire of reading in the kid. Parents now have the option to use a rocker chair for more purposes than just decoration in a child’s bedroom.

The attention of any child can often be hard to reign in, especially for children who can’t focus for long periods of time. This is why parents are jumping at any new idea or method that can help them keep their child’s concentration. The rocking motion is definitely a piece of this puzzle and should help families enjoy focused learning in the evenings or on the weekends.
