Hypnosis and Its Influence Over Championship Winning Sportsmen

For decades it has been known that hypnosis can significantly improve sporting performance and yet many struggling professionals fail to seize the opportunity to utilise this opportunity to seriously maximise their potential.

This article outlines many famous sportsmen who have used the services of a Hypnotherapist or some form of hypnosis and go on to achieve fantastic results.

Steve Collins

Irish boxer Steve Collins used hypnosis for the Middleweight Boxing Championship of the world against Chris Eubank. The suggestion under hypnosis was to throw two punches for every one of reigning champion Eubank’s. In the bout Steve Collins threw twice as many punches as Eubank approx 600 to 300 and became champion of the world.

Jimmy Connors

Popular US Tennis player Jimmy Connors was a keen advocate of hypnosis using a variety of techniques to visualise winning strokes on his way to winning the US Open championship.

Ken Norton

Having to fight the world’s greatest boxer Muhammad Ali would be daunting for anyone. So Ken Norton used hypnosis as part of his daily training and went onto breaking the jaw of the greatest and win the bout.

They were the first to take a team of hypnotists with them (11 of them). The Soviet Union went onto win more medals than any other nation, 98 in total (24 more than the USA) and topped the Gold medal tally as well with 37.

NBA Basketball head coach Phil Jackson used self-hypnosis daily with the famous Chicago Bulls team of the 1990s when he coached Michael Jordan and the Bulls to their incredible 6 NBA Championships.

The LA Lakers – Coach Phil Jackson – Shaquille O’Neal – Kobe Bryant

Well maybe it was a fluke and all down to Michael Jordan with or without hypnosis? Or maybe not as coach Phil Jackson went on to coach the LA Lakers and NBA greats Shaq O’Neal and Kobe Bryant to another 5 NBA championship titles in 10 years using self-hypnosis and visualisation each morning giving the players the belief that they could win.
