Shore Is Beautiful – Kath Eats Real Food
[ad_1]
Here is part II of our spring break trip to Bald Head Island.
Birch and I went to the beach alone together where we found hundreds of birds! We sat in the sand, side by side, and I said “sure is beautiful” and he said “sure is beautiful” back about 5 minutes later. There is nothing like the shore.
Shore Is Beautiful!
Grammie + Pea
Grammie and Pea arrived on Monday, so we enjoyed the second half of our trip with them. Having a kid-to-adult ratio of 4:1 was quite nice!
Grammie’s Birthday Dinner
We celebrated Grammie’s birthday (a few weeks late) with a sprinkle striped cake and gifts!
And before cake we had BBQ chicken, roasted asparagus, rosemary potatoes, and rolls.
And lots of beach time!
Tide Pools
The tide pools at the point were on point (ha!) this time!! So many shallow ones to hop in.
Spa and Golf
Thomas and I escaped for some individual activities. He played golf twice, and I went to the Island Retreat Spa!
I got a massage with cupping for the first time and was quite shocked by the marks it left on my back. It’s supposedly very good for muscles, and it hurt a little but not a lot. They are slowly fading away. Looks like I got stung by a giant squid!
I also went to the Club fitness room twice for a Peloton ride! Felt so much like home. Interestly, I crushed my personal record by almost 40 points. So either this bike or mine is totally off calibration.
Island Adventures
We went to see Old Baldy and paid a visit to the “pirate store” which was filled with pirate things for Captain Sparrow!!
Fishing on the Dock
Lots of Easter Egg Hunts!
Watercolors with Grammie
Beach Time Everyday!
Quote from Birch “I don’t like the ocean, but I love the beach!”
Meals
Carnitas over salad
Happy hour cheese
Wine + Salad Course
One of the best roses from Winc!
Pizza course followed
Lunch at Jailhouse
We tried the new restaurant, Jailhouse Provisions. It’s part coffee shop and part casual eatery open for lunch and at the bottom of the week.
The Edward Teach IPA was excellent in the sunshine.
Thomas and I shared the flounder platter with fries and a salad.
Dinner at Horizons
These tuna nachos were one of the highlights of my week!
I also had this seafood chowder and shared spring rolls with Thomas.
And for dessert – coconut cream pie!!!!! It was so fluffy good.
Date Night at the Shoals
We got all dressed up for once!
We started the meal with this great crab queso!! Our server broke the chips into the hot crabby cheese underneath. We devoured it!
We shared a flounder cooked Thai-style with banana leaves and rice and a really good mango with croutons and a vanilla bean vinaigrette!!!! Must recreate it was soooo good.
And for dessert – nutella mousse!
Perfecting ending to a relaxing week!
